Services ANTENATAL CLINICSAntenatal Clinics are run by the Community Midwife who will monitor your health through pregnancy and the development of your unborn baby. Appointments for the Clinic should be made through reception. When your pregnancy has been confirmed reception will give you a maternity pack, which will give all the information you need on what to do next. ASTHMA AND CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE AIRWAYS CLINICS Asthma checks and checks of chronic obstructive airways disease are carried out by one of our practice nurses who has undergone specialist training. She provides monitoring of your condition, advice on inhaler technique and new medications. CERVICAL SMEARS It is very important for all women between 20 and 65 to have a cervical smear test every three years for which they will receive a recall letter. The test is carried out by the practice nurse. CHILD HEALTH AND VACCINATIONS Childhood vaccinations are started at 2, 3 and 4 months old and continue at intervals until the child goes to school. These vaccinations protect children from serious illness. Your child will be invited by post to attend for vaccination. If you have any concerns about the safety of vaccination, please discuss with the Health Visitor, our Child Immunisation Practice Nurse or one of the doctors. CORONARY HEART DISEASE AND STROKE CLINICS Coronary heart disease and stroke clinics are run by one of our practice nurses. She provides monitoring of your condition and medication, advice on risk factors and tries to help you to minimise the risk of future problems. COUNSELLING Counselling Service is available in the surgery one morning and one afternoon per week and an appointment can be made by speaking to your doctor who will refer you. DIABETES CLINIC Diabetic checks are carried out by the practice nurse who assesses all aspects of your diabetic care. FAMILY PLANNING Contraceptive services and advice are available from all of our doctors. LEG ULCER CARE Leg ulcers are monitored and treated by our District Nurses. An appointment can be made by either seeing your doctor who will then refer you or by contacting the District Nurses on 01844 292227. MINOR SURGERY Dr. Sadler carries out some minor surgical procedures in the practice. Dr. Wade runs a cryotherapy clinic for freezing skin lesions that do not need surgical removal. Your doctor will refer you to these clinics if it is appropriate. MUSCULOSKELETAL CLINIC Dr. Jim Griffiths visits our Surgery on the last Friday in every month. He specialises in aches and pains related to muscles, bones and joints. The Doctors in the practice refer patients to him where necessary. Patients cannot self-refer to this clinic. PLASTIC SURGERY CLINIC Dr. Alex Stephenson runs a clinic each week at our surgery for patients from the area. She is a GP who has specialist training in dermatology and plastic surgery. The doctors in the practice will refer patients to her as appropriate for the removal of skin lesions. Patients cannot self-refer to this clinic. PODIATRY A Podiatrist service provided by the Primary Care Trust is attached to the Medical Centre. The podiatrists see our patients and those from the surrounding area. Please enquire at reception. Once registered you can have an appointment if you are a child attending school, diabetic, pregnant or of pensionable age without being referred by your doctor. TRAVEL ADVICE/VACCINATIONS A Travel Clinic is held on a Wednesday morning by one of our practice nurses. She can offer a full range of foreign travel immunisations, malaria prevention and advice. Try to make your first appointment about eight weeks before you travel in case a course of vaccinations is necessary. There is a charge for some of the vaccinations and our Practice Nurse will be happy to advise you on these. |
