Training TRAININGWe are proud to be a long-established training practice. As part of our teaching commitment, doctors from other practices occasionally visit the health centre to assess the standard of our records and the care given. If you object to your notes being made available for this purpose please let us know. Additionally, doctors occasionally video their consultations to assess and improve their skills. If you object to your consultation being recorded please let us know. As you would expect, the normal strict rules of confidentiality apply to these processes. GP REGISTRAR TRAINING GP Registrars are attached to the practice for one year as part of the Aylesbury Vocational Training Scheme. They are a FULLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR having already completed at least three years of hospital training who will join us for one year to complete their specialist GP Training. Dr. Howcutt and Dr. Hutcheson are GP trainers and are currently responsible for GP registrar training. Dr. Sadler and Dr. Smith were both GP trainers in the past and are also involved in training. Click here for the Bucks MEC Website which includes Aylesbury VTS. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME DOCTOR TRAINING Foundation programme doctors are attached to the practice for four months as part of the foundation programme. The foundation programme is a two year training rotation for junior doctors which follows medical school. It is now recognised that general practice can provide useful training for ALL young doctors. So these doctors are FULLY QUALIFIED and will usually have completed at least one year of hospital training before coming to us. They are not training to be GPs but attached to learn general skills and to gain a greater understanding of the practice of medicine in different settings. MEDICAL STUDENT TEACHING Occasionally we are joined by medical students from Oxford University or one of the London teaching hospitals. They will sit in on surgeries, accompany doctors and nurses on visits and may see some patients on their own before being joined by the supervising professional. You will be informed if a medical student is present and be given the opportunity to say if you do not wish them to be there when you see the doctor or nurse. HEALTH VISITOR TRAINING Our Health Visitor is a trainer and so we are often joined by qualified nurses who are undertaking their advanced health visitor training. DISTRICT NURSE TRAINING We also have a district nurse trainer working with us and so district nurse trainees often spend part of their extended training with us. NURSING STUDENT TEACHING Nursing students from Luton University (training at Stoke Mandeville Hospital) often spend part of their training with us. They work under close supervision to develop their nursing skills. CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT We are all committed not only to help train new health care professions, but to continue the development of our own knowledge and skills. To that end, we regularly have clinical and whole-team meetings for education as well as to cover business and administration matters. PROTECTED LEARNING TIME On ten afternoons each year, the surgery is closed for protected learning. This time is important in maintaining and developing our services to patients. During each protected learning time, almost all of practices in mid and south Buckinghamshire will be closed. Services to patients will be provided by Harmoni. Please telephone the surgery if medical care is needed and you will be automatically transfered to Harmoni.
