Haddenham Medical Centre is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for all patients and staff.
A chaperone is available for any patient who would like one present during an examination, procedure, or consultation. This applies to all patients, regardless of age or gender.
You may request a chaperone at any time before or during your appointment. Wherever possible, we ask that you inform reception in advance so arrangements can be made. However, requests made during the consultation will also be accommodated whenever possible.
Clinicians may also offer or recommend a chaperone for certain examinations in line with current professional guidance and safeguarding standards. This is to support both patient comfort and professional practice.
The chaperone will usually be a trained member of the practice team who understands the role and responsibilities involved, including maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality.
If a chaperone is unavailable, you may choose to:
- Continue with the appointment without a chaperone
- Rearrange the appointment for another time
- Request an alternative clinician where appropriate
Parents, carers, relatives, or friends may attend appointments with the patient; however, they are not usually considered formal clinical chaperones.
Children and young people are entitled to privacy and dignity during consultations. Clinicians will follow current safeguarding guidance and may request a chaperone where appropriate.
Further information is available from reception upon request.
